Therapy Services

The Body Image Therapy Center provides treatment programs designed to help individuals, couples and families develop healthy lifestyles, self-esteem and body image. Learn to love yourself from the inside out and stop the destructive patterns of an eating disorder, food addiction, or other compulsive and destructive behaviors such as drug and alcohol abuse.

The first step of the program is to call and have a free 15 minute phone consultation. You will talk with our director, Andrew Walen, LCSW-C, to determine if our program is the right fit for you. From there, we can decide what combination of services best suits your needs. The Body Image Therapy Center offers a variety of services, many of which are reimbursable by insurance. Every effort is made to work with referring doctors, clinicians, or nutritionists to coordinate services.

Individual Therapy
For many eating disorders and compulsive eaters, there are a variety of concerns which led to their eating behavior. These issues need intensive work to be resolved. For many, individual therapy is the heart of life-long recovery. We treat all ages and all forms of eating disorders from anorexia and compulsive exercise to binge eating disorder and bulimia.

Group Therapy
We provide a number of ongoing groups designed for eating disorder clients and bariatric surgery patients to enhance the recovery process. These groups allow for peer feedback, education, and skill development. A variety of topics are discussed, and participants are asked to share openly and honestly.

Parent and Caregiver Consultations
If you have questions about how to best approach your child or teen about an eating disorder, body image issues, or addiction behavior we can help. This is often the first step for helping a child or teen enter treatment.

Couples and Family Therapy
Often those closest to us can be our greatest asset in recovery. Research has shown that when the family learns new relationship skills and gains a deeper understanding of the role an eating disorder, compulsive eating, or body image disturbance plays in the life of the client, recovery is quicker and more sustainable. You and your therapist can determine how to best involve those most important in your support system.

Psychological Evaluation for Bariatric Surgery Patients
Bariatric surgery has brought hope to those suffering from chronic obesity and its associated health issues, but there are risks associated with the surgery which you must be ready to face. Additionally, many people who suffer from untreated or undertreated mental health conditions like depression, anxiety and eating disorders may increase these risks after surgery. The psychological test is not designed to prohibit you from receiving the surgery, but to identify and assist you in accessing the treatment you may need to be eligible for the surgery.
